Venue Hire

We welcome enquiries about hiring Katherine Mansfield House & Garden for small private events. Examples include weddings, significant birthday parties, book club gatherings, photoshoots or as a film location. 

As a historic house with the majority of rooms furnished with collection items, each venue hire is a conversation between the hirer and the Katherine Mansfield House & Garden Director, with the care of the house and collection the priority. Venue hire fees depend on the nature and duration of the hire and include the cost of a staff member onsite to supervise.

Things to note:

• Venue hire generally needs to take place outside of our opening hours (which are 10am-4pm, Tuesday through Sunday). Nighttime events must be finished and packed up by 10pm as a courtesy to our neighbours.
• The maximum capacity indoors is 30 people.
• It is not possible to remove large items of furniture from the furnished rooms.
• Katherine Mansfield House & Garden has a small staff kitchen at the rear of the house with a microwave, small fridge, single-drawer dishwasher and small oven (no cooktop). Any event catering needs to be prepared offsite and delivered for the event as there is not enough space for cooking onsite.
• Cups and saucers, glasses and seating for events of up to 15 people (such as book club gatherings) can be provided, but for larger events these need to be hired.
• A marquee can be hired and erected on the front lawn, maximum size 6 x 8 metres.
